"For unto us a child is born"
They could hear the angel cry.
The lonely shepherds in a field
Fixed their gaze on heaven high.
So amazed, they stared in wonder
At the angel's ev'ry word,
Trembling at the glorious sight
And the proclamation heard.
"Fear not! I bring good news to you
Of joy for everyone;
Go now to Bethlehem and see
The incarnate Word, God's Son.
At once the sky above was filled
With a great angelic choir;
The message of the Savior's birth
Ignited a holy fire.
Their hearts did burn within their souls
At the wondrous words they said,
And hastily the shepherds went
To the Christ child's manger bed.
Kneeling in reverent wonder,
Bursting hearts could not contain
The joy that leaped within their souls
That no words could e'er explain.
With haste they left the holy Child
There to spread the news around
That Jesus Christ the Son of God
From Heaven to earth came down.
The news took wings and soared in flight
Of the Christ child's humble birth.
The King of Kings and Lord of Lords
Had now come to reign on earth.
