Each night it was a ritual
Before Susie went to bed,
Treasured moments spent with mom
With her fav'rite story read.
Mom carefully turned the pages,
Caressing every word;
And Susie listened carefully
To each story that she heard.
There was David and Goliath,
There was Jonah and the Whale,
How Jesus in the storm-tossed boat
Spoke and calmed the mighty gale.
Then after each bedtime story,
They would kneel beside her bed,
And they would talk to Jesus
Before pillowing her head.
Then mom tucked her in and whispered,
"Remember, Jesus loves you."
As she pulled the blanket o'er her,
She would say, "I love you, too."
"May in Jesus you rest sweetly.
May He keep you in His care.
May Christ tenderly watch o'er you.
This is my earnest prayer.
"Just as this blanket covers you,
May God's sweet love now enfold,
And wrap you up in Jesus,
Closely to His heart now hold."
The years have passed and Susie now
Has a daughter of her own,
And she makes her bedtime special
With some treasured time alone.
For of all her precious memories
There were none she held more dear
Then the moments shared at bedtime
When her mother prayed, she'd hear:
"May in Jesus you rest sweetly
May He keep you in His care.
May Christ tenderly watch o'er you.
This is my earnest prayer.
"Just as this blanket covers you,
May God's sweet love now enfold,
And wrap you up in Jesus,
Closely to His heart now hold."
