My Gramma loved to make for us
A quilt hand stitched with love.
Each finished one a masterpiece
That we were so proud of.
Mom said that I was wrapped in love
The day that I was born,
For Gramma made me my first quilt
From dresses she had worn.
Now that quilt became a treasure,
Held close through passing years.
It brought me so much comfort;
I felt my Gramma near.
"Each stitch was made for you with love,"
I heard my Gramma say.
"Each patch holds priceless memories
I've passed to you today.
An heirloom you will treasure
With every passing year.
May it cover you and comfort you
When my arms cannot be near."
Years now have passed, and I a bride,
Then heard my Gramma say,
"I've made for you a bridal quilt
For this your special day."
Her fingers, bent and feeble,
Made from her wedding dress
A priceless patchwork quilt for me,
A treasure I confess.
"Each stitch was made for you with love,"
I heard my Gramma say.
"Each patch holds priceless memories
I've passed to you today.
An heirloom you will treasure
With every passing year.
May it cover you and comfort you
When my arms cannot be near."
Now Gramma is up in Heaven,
But before she passed away
She reminded me of her love,
And I can hear her say ...
"I will always be close by;
I'm never far away.
Each quilt holds priceless memories
I've passed to you today.
An heirloom you will treasure
With every passing year.
May it cover you and comfort you
When my arms cannot be near."
