Gentle Jesus, full of mercy, poured out free on Calv'ry's Hill,
Timeless story we have treasured, wondrous truth amazes still.
Gentle Jesus, how we love Thee, forfeit all to claim Your Name,
Renounce the world, all its glory; give up praise and earthly fame.
Gentle Jesus, how we ponder why You left Your throne above.
Who can understand such suff'ring? Who can fathom such great love?
Gentle Jesus, You're amazing, hearts cannot contain such grace,
Why You bore our pain and sorrow, why You suffered our disgrace.
Gentle Jesus, man's forgiver, washes clean our guilt and stain,
Returns prodigals who've wandered back to Father's arms again.
Gentle Jesus, who is like Thee? None can satisfy man's soul.
None can fill our heart's deep longing, none but You can make us whole.
Gentle Jesus, make us like Thee, humble us to servitude.
Pour us out as Love's great off'ring, showing heart-felt gratitude.
Gentle Jesus, all we offer, all we ever hope to be,
Is surrendered to your Spirit; transform us to be like Thee.
