In every hole that life digs
God will plant a fragrant flower,
Giving beauty for our ashes,
Swapping weakness for His power.
He gives gladness for our mourning,
Condemnation gives way to grace,
Trades rejection for acceptance,
And offers honor for our disgrace.
He exchanges rags for riches,
Replaces praise for our despair,
Transforms a saddened lonely heart
With His abiding presence there.
Where there's darkness, He is The Light,
When we are lost, He is The Way,
Where the world will offer no hope,
God will renew our hope each day.
In every hole that life digs
Our God will plant sweet flowers there,
Turning potholes into gardens,
Dispersing fragrance everywhere.
"… and provide for those who grieve in Zion-to bestow on them a crown of beauty instead of ashes, the oil of gladness instead of mourning, and a garment of praise instead of a spirit of despair" (Isaiah 61:3b).
