This Man of Sorrows, Christ was He,
Who bore our guilt and shame,
The precious Lord, the Son of God,
On Him was laid our blame.
Each labored step of suffering,
Our sin and shame bore He,
This Man of Sorrows bled and died
For our iniquities.
Though oppressed and so afflicted,
By His stripes we are healed;
His punishment that brought us peace,
Our fate forever sealed.
Mercy and grace unmerited,
Such love beyond degree,
Extended to the vilest soul
From Christ on Calvary.
