Rumors had traveled so quickly,
And her heart was filled with fear,
For whisperings of tragic news
Spread that Christ's end was soon near.
As jealousy and hatred grew,
Evil men plotted to kill
Her precious Lord by nailing Him
To a cross on Calv'ry's hill.
She had seen her Lord heal the sick,
And blind eyes were made to see;
Lepers were cleansed--the lame could walk.
Son of God, no less, was He.
Her heart was moved with compassion
As she wiped away a tear;
She clasped her alabaster jar,
For her mission now was clear.
The man called Simon the Leper,
So well-known both far and wide,
After Jesus arrived in town,
Had invited Him inside.
So she took her priceless ointment,
And in haste without delay
Went to where Christ was reclining
At a table on that day.
She poured the priceless perfume out
With abandon o'er His head.
Her sacrificial gift of love
Filled the room and quickly spread.
Rebuked by Christ's blind disciples
Who then could not clearly see,
Jesus said, "This woman has done
A beautiful thing for Me.
"Anointing Me for burial,
She showed Me how much she cared,
So where'er the gospel is preached,
This story will too be shared."
The very best she had she gave;
Not a drop did she withhold.
'Twas a sacrificial off'ring
That the Lord thus blessed fourfold.
May I, too, be like that off'ring,
Recklessly poured out for Thee,
A holy, living sacrifice
Oh, Lord, may I ever be.
