THE BURDEN-BEARER

Along the dusty, uphill road
He walked with dragging feet.
The journey seemed impossible
In the muggy, summer heart.

The load he bore seemed so much more
Than he could possibly bear,
For he carried on his journey
The weight of deep despair.

But as he reached the crossroads,
A friend awaited there
And asked if he could help him
With his heavy burden bear.

Joyfully he released the load
Upon his willful friend.
That he would want to bear his load
He could not comprehend.

But as they walked together,
He finally realized
He was walking with His Master
And quickly apologized.

But Jesus said, "I, your Master,
So willingly choose to serve,
To carry all of your burdens
That your strength you can reserve.

"For I am your Burden Bearer;
Release all anxiety.
Turn loose on all that weighs you down;
Cast all your cares on me."
